ON THE BEACH (Apologies to Nevil Shute)

I took some time off work and spent a week camping. Still cleaning sand out of the crevices, but it was worth every grain.

HILARY LOOKED GOOD IN THAT DRESS ON OSCAR NIGHT

We saw Million Dollar Baby yesterday. Not being a boxing fan, I wasn't expecting to be crazy about the movie, but I liked it. I wasn't prepared for the ending, though. Guess I was primed for a female Rocky - wins the title and lives happily ever after.

Eastman, Swank and Freeman were excellent, as you'd expect. And Jay Baruchel lightened things up as Danger.

I looked it up on IMDB to see what trivia I could find about it, and was interested to learn that the author, Jerry Boyd, under the pen name F.X. Toole, was 70 years old at the time the story was published and had been writing and getting rejection letters for forty years. So maybe I won't let those contest judges discourage me.

If you haven't seen it, take a chance. But take Kleenex.
